Physical Bootcamp – KCIC Training Cohort

    Overview

The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) provides incubation, capacity building services and financing to Kenyan entrepreneurs and new ventures that are developing innovative solutions in energy, water and agribusiness to address climate change challenges. KCIC is an initiative supported by the World Bank.

KCIC approached PES to curate a ‘Training Cohort’ Investor Readiness programme for twenty-five (25) of its incubator and accelerator clients over a two (2) day period. The aim was to give an oversight into the ‘Investor Engagement’ process especially for the accelerator programme participants, who were to commence the capital raise process.

    Outcome

PES undertook an initial analysis of all 25 participants in the run-up to the training programme. The output of this analysis informed the scope and depth of the curated two (2) day programme which included PowerPoint presentations, case studies and group discussions. The session culminated in ten(10) of the accelerator programme companies undertaking a ‘live pitch’ in front of a panel of investor representatives from Alpha Mundi, Acumen and MSINGI. KCIC was also able to identify the specific challenges that each cohort was facing through the ‘live pitch’ session and able to use this information to improve the gaps addressed. The participants gave the two-day training session an average score of 4/5 indicating a high appreciation of the programme, its content and effectiveness.
