Physical Bootcamp – African Development Bank(AfDB) AIF

    Overview

The AfDB in collaboration with other partners organises annual Africa Investment Forum (AIF) which offers entrepreneurial ventures an opportunity to connect with investors, mentorship and entrepreneurship ecosystem partners. In the 2019 AIF held in Johannesburg, South Africa, AfDB organized Market Day Sessions for 20 entrepreneurial ventures working in education, health, agriculture, energy industries and ICT.

PES was engaged by AfDB to review the 20 selected businesses and provide feedback to the participants to enable them to improve on their pitches. PES was also engaged to offer one day investor readiness training to the participants to address gaps identified in the review of their documentation.

    Project Details

Sector: Education, Health, Agri-Business, Clean Energy, Technology

    Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

    Outcome

PES undertook an in-depth review of all material submitted by the businesses and provided detailed feedback reports for each business. PES developed a comprehensive training programme, including content and facilitation, addressing the gaps identified, with case studies and sample templates to guide trainees. The 20 businesses were also guided on how to pitch by a panel of investors who additionally provided an investor perspective into their pitch presentation. Participants noted that the training was insightful and very useful in helping them communicate their business opportunity to target investors. A number of entrepreneurial ventures generated interest from investors and are currently engaging with the expectation of getting funding.
